I don't know about you, but I believe I am the biggest Lauryn Hill fan ever. The Mis-Education of Lauryn Hill came out when I was going into my freshman year of college. The lyrics this sista used touched a special place in my heart. I knew then when I was listening to it that it was something special, and like all special things it has stood the test of time.
But now Ms. Hill is in a different place and a lot of people want to refer to her as "crazy" i.e. Dave Chappelle because they don't understand her. I don't know the sista personally so I cannot speak on her mental state, but rather I can listen to the things that she said in this video and see that she is making a lot of sense. Everybody is not willing to sell their soul for glitter and gold, and she has proven to be one of these people. She is not willing to compromise her artistry for fortune and fame, and I have to respect her for that (even though deep down inside I am screaming for another album from this sista).
So listen to Ms. Hill in her own words and tell me what you think. Do you think she is crazy or rather just misunderstood?
Since we are leaving in a day and age where there no longer seems to be any creativity in music I thought I would leave you with two of my favorite Lauryn Hill's songs:
The Sweetest Thing and Ex-Factor
