Once upon a time, the only jobs open to African Americans were positions as hired help hidden away in somebody’s home, or if we were lucky we could work at the post office or an auto factory. Well times have truly changed. We now have an African American man running for President of the United States, an African American woman who is the wealthiest women in Media, and a host of other jobs which we were unable to obtain. In today’s world all kinds of opportunities exist. If you can dream it you can achieve it. If we do not squander our energies, we can focus on strategies that will allow us to compete in any field. The problem is that far too many of us keep looking back on missed opportunities, with longing and regret. What’s past is past. We must concentrate on what lies ahead and remember the door of opportunity opens for those who are persistent enough to unlock it with a key.
