Wow, we've had some great talks here at the Savvy Sista blog this week! Whether it's our finances, our creative dreams, or our relationships, my message is the same: We are empowered to change. We get the lives we create. In Zoom Power: Your Key to Hitting Your Personal, Business and Financial Targets, I give clear tips to help you create change in the areas you want.
We often feel lost and maybe even a bit confused when we feel our lives aren't going the way we want. But we truly can change all that. Are there some things that happen that we truly have no control over? Of course. But there are a lot of things that happen which we can control! For instance, a Savvy Sista who is unhappy in her job has to do the thing Savvy Sistas do: Fix her situation. Maybe she looks for another job. If that's not an option at the moment, maybe she has to simply look at her job with a fresh perspective. How? Well, if you're feeling stuck in a job you don't like, here are a few suggestions:
1. Examine why you don't like the job. Is it the work? Is it the people? Is it the commute?
2. Address the thing you do not like about this particular job. If it's the work, maybe it's time to look for more challenging assignments. Maybe you can take on another assignment, and in this time of corporate downsizing, you'll find plenty of extra work! Your boss will be happy to give you another assignment – and that could lead to a promotion! If it's the people you don't like, maybe it's time to distance yourself from negative associations at work, or change your tone. Engage in conversation, but be more professional. You may find that when you set the tone, it changes.
3. Find something you do like about the job. Jot down a list of those things – large and small – you do like or appreciate about your job. The paycheck may not be the best, but maybe you do appreciate it at a time when others do not have paychecks at all. Your boss may be demanding, but maybe this tough assignment is teaching you skills that will help you position yourself for a promotion, so maybe you do like the opportunity for advancement you're being provided. And so forth.
4. Create your exit strategy. Be proactive. If this job truly is not for you, create your exit plan. Will you look for a new job with a new company? Will you seek a promotion within this company? Will you start your own company? What skills or training will you need? Is this something your current employer can provide? Will you need to save money for your transition? What new relationships do you need to create?
These are just a few suggestions a Savvy Sista can use to change her work situation. But there are lots of other personal, business and financial situations you may want to address. Zoom Power helps you start thinking differently about where you are so you start moving closer to where you want to be.
What do you want to change in your life right now?
